5.4       Air-Hygienic Maps

Data for air pollution in and around the Stuttgart study area are present in the emissions and immissions registers produced by the State of Baden-Württemberg. From the immissions data a so-called air pollution index was calculated for the description of air pollution levels (BAUMUELLER, 1988), which arises from the sum of the proportion factors of the average yearly pollution or short-term pollution to the respective TA Air limit value for the 4 highest pollutants. Figure 5/3 gives an overview of the air pollution in the study region on the basis of this air pollution index for the average annual pollution. Data from the Baden-Württemberg state air measurement network were also used to designate polluted areas.
